Maroon & Blue: Recollections & Tales of the Fitzroy Football Club. Vulgar Press.

In 1996 the Fitzroy Football Club, the Roys, played their final game of top-level football after more than 110 years of competing in the VFL/AFL. A real ‘people’s club,’ Fitzroy was ultimately a victim of corporate football and the AFL’s desire to leave behind suburban footy and expand the competition’s national focus.

Released on the tenth anniversary of the club’s demise, Maroon & Blue captures the rich story of the Roys in the words of those who played for, supported and loved their club. Crafted from hundreds of hours of interviews and archival research, Maroon & Blue is a groundbreaking book, the first oral / social history of a senior footy club in Australia.
